For a renewable energy producer, sustainability data is no longer a side topic. PPA* buyers (clients) and investors increasingly expect structured disclosure. Skarta Energy chose to be ready for those conversations.
Skarta Energy (founded 2021) is an independent power producer (IPP) and developer of industrial-scale solar power and battery energy storage in Finland. Currently it is one of the largest solar power producers in Finland with two operating parks (Pälkäne and Utajärvi). The company is owned through CapMan's infrastructure fund, and reports group-level results including project companies.
The company's strategic growth targets are directly linked to climate change mitigation and thus the sustainability foundation was already strong: three ISO certifications, voluntary EU Taxonomy reporting, Scope 1–3 GHG calculations, and a GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) score of 97/100 with five stars. What was missing was a single, recognised report that pulled it all together for external stakeholders.

Working with Selko Insights, Skarta applied the EU's VSME standard. The Basic module alone would have met compliance, but the Comprehensive module tells the fuller story of industrial-scale solar — siting, biodiversity, supply-chain emissions and climate risk. The 2025 report covers the whole group, including all project companies, and discloses Scope 1–3 emissions also across all 15 Scope 3 categories. Skarta Energy is committed to the Science Based Targets initiative, with a 42% absolute Scope 1–2 reduction target by 2030.

The fit was straightforward. Skarta had the data and the commitment; what it needed was a tool that applied the VSME standard correctly and produced a report stakeholders would recognise. Selko Insights is one of the few Finnish companies in EFRAG's VSME expert community, so its application of the standard stays current.
The payoff was practical.

The 2025 report sets the baseline. The same framework now supports annual reporting and gives stakeholders a single document to reference as the project portfolio grows toward the 2030 target of 800 MW of installed solar power capacity, generating 800 GWh of renewable electricity annually and avoiding approximately 1.3 million tonnes of CO₂e emissions per year.
